To put it differently, as long as mind and heart are caught up in want, in desire, there must be emptiness. You want things, ideas, persons, only when you are conscious of your own emptiness, and that wanting creates a choice. When there is craving there must be choice, and choice precipitates you into the conflict of experiences. You have the capacity to choose, and thereby you limit yourself by your choice. Only when mind is free from choice is there liberation. Jiddu Krishnamurti
About This Quote

Ramakrishna's words are not the only ones to make the point that people cannot be free if they are caught up in desire. But what is interesting about his words is how he makes the point in a more worldly way. First, he refers to how he has experienced his own emptiness in many lives. He sees this emptiness as something that comes from suffering, suffering that comes from suffering, suffering that comes from suffering .

. . and suffering never ends.

Second, he says that suffering does not end until a person chooses a different path. Only then does suffering end because then a person can choose differently. Third, all suffering comes from choice.

When a person wants something, their mind must make a choice. When the mind makes a choice the man's ability to choose is limited by what he can believe and feel. In other words, if you want something you don't have the freedom to choose otherwise you would not want it.

In this way, choosing limits your capacity for freedom and also limits your ability to live an fulfilling life.
